A regional arts facility. Located adjacent to Bowie High School, the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts is the product of a unique public/private partnership. The Center will be available to all sectors of the community: public & private schools; businesses, tourists, non-profit groups, community groups; government agencies and more. Everything from a school play or opera to an off-Broadway show can be featured in one of two performance areas: the 800-seat auditorium or 150-seat Bowie Blade-News Recital Hall/Community Room.

The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center is a premier showcases for university, local, regional, national and international art, theatre, music and dance. The City of Bowie Arts Committee maintians Art Galleries on the first and second floors of Bowie City Hall. The galleries,  named East Gallery and West Gallery, include hanging space for photography and paintings, and two display cases for three-dimensional artwork. City Hall is located at 15901 Excalibur Road in Bowie. The building is open Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m to noon for viewing what’s on display in the galleries.

Formed in 2001, the rich artistic diversity of the area results in a variety of restaurants, coffee houses, local and regional theatres, galleries and entertainment, as well as arts-related businesses such as arts and crafts stores, designers, and art supply stores that support and extend the influence and economic vitality of the artists’ community. The Herman Maril Gallery, formerly the West Gallery, is the student run exhibition space for the Department of Art at the University of Maryland. University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is home to one of Maryland’s finest art collections. Established in 1978, the UMUC Arts Program is dedicated to collecting and exhibiting artwork by Maryland artists. The Maryland Artists Collection, a growing, permanent collection, consists of more than 300 works by Maryland painters, printmakers, photographers, and sculptors. Artists represented in the collection include Gladys Goldstein, Herman Maril, Selma Oppenheimer, Karl Metzler, Joseph Sheppard, Philip Koch, Barbara Cooper Hansen, and Aaron Sopher. The Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center aspires to become recognized nationally and internationally for its innovative approach to the documentation, interpretation, preservation, and presentation of local and regional African American history and culture. The museum will be constructed on a 2.5-acre site in North Brentwood, MD, the first municipality in Prince George’s County incorporated by African American citizens.  During the development phase, Gallery 110 at the Gateway Arts Center in neighboring Brentwood serves as interim exhibition and public programming space.
